I work as a communications officer for the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) collaboration at CERN's Large Hadron Collider and am pursuing a PhD in science communication from the University of the West of England in Bristol, UK. I work closely with CERN's IT and Scientific Information Services teams as well as with the CMS open-data team on the CERN Open Data Portal. The Portal serves data from the LHC collaborations, including research-quality data recorded by CMS, and is itself developed openly on GitHub. My role is mainly in preparing documentation for the data releases. I also get into long conversations about open access/data/research with anyone who's willing to discuss it with me.
