Aloha my name is Jennifer Beamer and I am a librarian, a PhD student and advocate of Open Access at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This past year I have been fortunate enough to work with our Graduate Student association to help them pass a motion to add themselves to our Open Access Faculty Policy. As a Librarian my role is to help faculty and graduate students the larger (measurable) impact they are making so that they will be motivated to continue using open access, and hopefully tell others!I'm also concerned about alternative voices in research and I believe open access can give voice to credible research that might not fit within the model or publishing that we have been used to in academics for so long. As well the University of Hawaii makes explicit its role in wanting to allow access to unique indigenous resources and offering alternative voices and we do this in our institutional repository.I'm also interested in how the library can work in the open access model and so this year I also started a Right to Research Coalition Chapter with other students on our campus so that we can work in collaboration with professors and the library to have more open educational resources and access to research. I'm really looking forward to hearing your perspectives and learning from people all over the world about your projects and contributions to the open access movement. See you soon. Licensed CC BY 4.0
